For the Girls

Well it finally happened. My eight-year-old daughter, who for years has had no opinions on style, suddenly has very distinct sartorial thoughts. I’m welcoming her feedback: Cool, comfortable, not trying hard. This shift has been fun, even when I do feel wistful about a Peter Pan collar now and then. Here’s an edit of what has her (hard-earned) seal of approval lately:

  1. Block Print Shorts: I’ve got a big Pink Chicken fan on my hands, $48.

  2. Tin Can Phone: Ring ring! A new school landline craze that’s swept the younger set, $100.

  3. Samba Sneakers: The perfect addition to pint-sized street style, on sale for $54

  4. John Derian Sticker Book: Hours of creativity unfurl with this sticker book, just the thing for travel days. $23.

  5. LAKE Pajamas Set: Hands down the softest, most durable PJs season after season (order a size up!), $48.

  6. ENewton Bracelet: A favorite (good quality) piece of arm candy for stacking, $42.

  7. Ditsy Floral Dress: This chic little silhouette gets five stars, $72.

  8. Camp Stationery: Just the thing to write letters home on, $35.

  9. Coated Tennis Bag: Game, set, cute racket bag! $82

  10. Striped Socks: The length and color palette of this pair passes the vibe check, $14.

  11. Compliment Pencil Set: Put a positive pep in her step, $11.

  12. Copenhagen Colors Set: A cute little shorts and top set to mix and match, $88

  13. Swan Claw Clip: A whimsical hair accessory is all the rage! $10

  14. Cherry Print Bandana: A classic summer kerchief to complete an outfit or wear as a head scarf, $23.

  15. Flutter Shorts: It’s all about the butterfly shorts for sports and play, $15.
